The boundaries between circus and dance are always shifting. For Guerre (War), the choreographer Samuel Mathieu drew inspiration from a ballet film that was devised by Yves Klein in 1954, but never made. The show, which involves three dancers and three aerial strap artists, can be read as a metaphor for human emotion. The straps and the dance represent traits, emotions and colour. Bodies seemingly liberated from gravity make movements that, between strength and tension, reconcile extremes.
